Defying Gravity: For the AfroFuture Elphaba

This work is inspired by “Wicked”. I remember being an exceptional student at PWI in one lifetime. While I loved school and nurturing my love of expanding my mind, the social pressure from my white classmates made life there nearly unbearable. Sometimes the only Black Person in my honors courses, or at work, and often left unheard by advisors who couldn’t look past my skin tone to see my potential… I was forced to break free, do my own thing, and craft the future I desired. I am so glad I didn’t listen to the people who told me I couldn’t. The character of Elphaba is one that I deeply resonate with. It’s okay, Baby. We up now.
